Welcome!
The purpose of this website is to get the citizens of New Jersey involved in a highly relevant citizen science project.
Emerald Ash Borer is an insect that is capable of killing Ash trees over just a few years. In order to monitor the spread of this insect pest, we need the help of New Jersey citizens. By using this website, you can learn how to identify an Ash tree, and submit to us photos and the location of the trees in your neighborhood. This will help the State of New Jersey (Rutgers University and the Department of Environmental Protection) know where the Ash trees are located, and if you do find the Emerald Ash Borer, we will help you deal with the pest.
Emerald Ash Borer is a problem that has only been in New Jersey for a short period of time. By participating in this project, together we can monitor the spread of the insect, and help any trees that are infected. To start, learn how to identify an Ash tree. If you've already identified your tree as an Ash, please let us know where it is.

Check out the map below of the natural range of Ash trees in New Jersey. Keep in mind that even if you're not located in one of these areas it doesn't mean you don't have any Ash trees near you. Ash is a commonly planted street tree all over New Jersey!
